In this article, you will learn how to use the WireGuard® protocol in the Surfshark application on your macOS device.
For WireGuard® to work properly, you need to have the Surfshark application in the Applications folder. Otherwise, you might experience certain issues with this particular protocol. You will also need an active Surfshark subscription to use Surfshark, which you can get on our pricing page.

Set up WireGuard® on your macOS Sonoma device
To set up WireGuard® on your macOS Sonoma or newer device, follow the steps below:
- On your first attempt to connect, a pop-up will be shown. Press on Open System Settings.
- You will notice that Surfshark was blocked from loading. To continue, press Allow.
- Enter your Mac device password or use your Touch ID to continue.
- Next up, we'll have to Add VPN configuration by pressing Allow in the next pop-up.
Set up WireGuard® on your macOS Monterey device
To set up WireGuard® on your macOS Monterey or older device, follow the steps below:

On your first attempt to connect, a pop-up will be shown. Press on Open Security Preferences.
- In the Security & Privacy window, click on the lock icon in the bottom left corner.
- You will now need to enter your device user account password and click Unlock. Alternatively, you can use Touch ID.
- Click the Allow button on the right side of the screen.
- Lastly, you will have to add Surfshark to VPN Configurations by pressing Allow.
